Thirty Days of Thankfulness – Days 16-26

Lift up your heart and give thanks

Each day this month I am giving thanks for something in my life that I am truly grateful, and I invite you to do the same.  Share your thought here or on other public forums, or just keep them in your own heart – whatever works for you.

As usual, life is hectic, but I have been posting on Facebook, so I’ll share this past ten days here.

Day 16 – Today I am thankful for motorized vehicles. I LOVE my van. it has been such a workhorse over the years. What a truly helpful thing to just be able to turn a key and transport my goods and family wherever we need to go at reasonably high speed. Plus, the cities aren’t buried in horse poop (this was a real problem at the turn of the last century, for those who don’t know).

Day 17 – Today I am thankful for our modern telecommunications system. It’s so amazing to me that you can communicate with people anywhere around the world in an instant. I can touch base with friends in Japan and Sri Lanka, or call my siblings on the other side of the state, or video chat with my husband when he’s stuck in Milwaukee during the week.

Day 18 – Today I am thankful for my momma. She was such an inspiration to me and I miss her so, especially during the holiday season.

Day 19 – Today I am thankful that several small businesses located near my home seem to be doing well. The meat place, the cheese place and the wine place all seem to be doing steady business, especially heading into the holidays (and hunting season – not so much the wine place on that one). I am planning on patronizing small local merchants for a number of gifts (and foodstuffs) this holiday season. What about you?

Day 20 – Today I am thankful that my honey is recovering well from minor surgery.

Day 21 – Thankful to have survived another whirlwind day. Thankful husband continues to heal, thankful for enough food to eat and a warm place to call home. Thankful for my boys and my husband – man, I love those guys! Thankful for more than one bathroom, especially when it’s too cold to send a boy outside. ;-) Thankful for my silly kitties, and my friends. Thankful for music and good weather.

Day 22 – Today I am thankful for the men and women or our armed forces, past, present and future. May they be watched over and kept safe this holiday season.

Day 23 – Today I am thankful for my messy kitchen, because it means we have plenty of food to eat. Thankful for the growing mound of dirty dishes, too. ;-)

Day 24 – Today I am thankful for the memories of my mom, even though I am missing her so. She used to bake a crazy amount of food for the holidays – kolache, rolache, tea rings, 5 or 6 pies, ham, turkey, dressing, potato dumplings, sauerkraut with polish sausage, sweet potatoes, veggies, and fruit salad – washed down with some jungle juice.

Day 25 – So thankful for a warm late fall day and lack of wind this afternoon. I cleaned and organized the garage for winter. (Yay! Big job I’ve been meaning to do.) I got in some garden time, too, but ran out of cardboard before I ran out of paths to mulch. Still had a very productive day and am sooooo sleepy from all the fresh air an exercise!

Day 26 – Today I am thankful for a really decadent chance to sleep in and cuddle with my hubby. I miss him so when he’s gone during the week, so this long weekend is really nice.

God bless you and yours during this holiday season, and keep remembering to be thankful.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness – Days 11-15 – Scenic Beauty

Lift up your heart and give thanks

Each day this month I am giving thanks for something in my life that I am truly grateful, and I invite you to do the same.  Share your thought here or on other public forums, or just keep them in your own heart – whatever works for you.

Life got a little extra crazy recently and I am behind on posting.  I did post on Facebook, so I’ll share those here.

11/11/11 – Today I am thankful for patience and understanding. Things almost always turn out better when they are in abundance.

11/12/11 – Today I am thankful that the rodent who had set up shop in the basement is now an ex-rodent! Who’s the top of the food chain, baby? ;-) It was, as suspected, a non-mouse – I think perhaps a vole.

11/13/11 – Today I am thankful for a warm and cozy home to share with those I love, with enough space to welcome friends and family when they visit. (No hotels really close, so that’s a very good thing.) Who’s planning to visit the Neverman Inn next? ;-)

11/14/11 – Today I am thankful that I don’t have to be swathed in fabric from head to toe when I leave the house; that I don’t have to escorted by a male relative everywhere I go; that I can drive where I want, when I want; that I don’t have religious leaders of my faith giving out instructions to my husband on how to beat me so it isn’t obvious in public that I’ve been beaten. Say what you want about the US, but at least we don’t live under hardcore Sharia law.

Today I am thankful for scenic views.  This home has been a place of such beauty. I’ve seen a number of gorgeous rainbows that seemed almost close enough to touch.

I’ve seen sunsets that light up the sky with their brilliance.

Snow, wind, rain, fog – everything here so so much more immediate than it did in town or in the suburbs.

 Since I’m feeling a little sentimental, I thought I’d share a poem.

Every Sunrise
Every sunrise is a present,
A gift from God above,
Gift-wrapped with scarlet ribbons,
Tied with bows of love.
Each day’s a new beginning,
A time to start anew,
While all the stars are sleeping,
The rose is fresh with dew.
Each day’s a new creation,
Too lovely to ignore,
We may find a blessing,
Just outside our door.
We cannot keep the past,
Like fireflies in a jar;
Nor journey to the future,
By wishing on a star.
Every sunrise is a blessing,
A gift for just today,
Rejoice my friend,
Embrace it before it fades away!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness – Day 10 – Online Friends

Lift up your heart and give thanks

Each day this month I am giving thanks for something in my life that I am truly grateful, and I invite you to do the same.  Share your thought here or on other public forums, or just keep them in your own heart – whatever works for you.

Today I am thankful for my online friends.  My blog, Facebook, the Homeschool Lounge, Heal Thyself and other online forums help me to reach out to people around the country and even around the world.  I have learned so much and met some truly amazing and inspiring people.  Plus, it’s just plain fun to hear all the different ideas and opinions, and get the pep talks when I’m struggling.

Thank you all for being a part of my life!
